The Amsterdam Adventure…

I went to Amsterdam last year, all in all a good trip, the hotel was less that desirable (the first room was a 3m x 3m prison cell). However there is lots to do and lots to see.

I think everyone has to go just to see how different it is there.

    My recommendations:

  • Only use the Van Gogh hotel if you can wangle room 12. (Room 14 is the prison cell)
  • Only go to the Van Gogh museum if you know about art, since you cannot take photos it is all a lot of looking at stuff you like or you don’t. And you’ll forget most of it by the time you walk out of the place.
  • Go to the science museum (it’s a little bit juvenile, but 2 hours later we were still messing about with stuff!)
  • Go to Casa Rosso (The pink elephant) it’s 30 Euros non negotiable, but you’ve gotta have a look. Bring a bottle of water or something to drink. Don’t get the 45 Euro ticket with free drinks included the barman is so slow that it isn’t worth it.
  • [If you go to Casa Rosso, wave off the idea of getting on the stage unless you want to eat a fresh banana out of a not so fresh pum pum!]
  • If you want to go clubbing then find the places in the day, some places that are reviewed on the web don’t even exist anymore!
  • Get your weed from the Damprink, only get 5 Euros to start off with (or a couple of pre rolled ones) and maybe go back if you want some more.
  • Go to the red light district at night, that place is different
  • NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy weed on the street.
  • Ask you barman if you can smoke in the bar, if there is Rizla on the bar the answer is probably yes.
  • Do your tram homework, trams are the way to get about in Amsterdam, look at the routes and look at the ones that get you where you need to be.
  • Wear comfy shoes even though the trams are good you’ll still walk quite a bit.

All in all, I think my friends had a good time and would go again…
